As part of its Fit for 55 Package, the European Commission published a proposal for the revision of the EU Emission Trading Scheme aimed at strengthening the current cap-and-trade system while expanding its scope. In the Commission’s view, this would lead to an overall emission reduction of sectors under the EU ETS of 61% by 2030 compared to 2005.

Opinions on the success of the EU ETS broadly differ among stakeholders and so do views on the proposed revision as well as the best way forward.

This Online Energy Debate will provide us with a glimpse of such diversity in different parts of Europe. PGE Polish Energy Group will reflect on what should be improved to ensure the EU ETS results in a fair distribution of transition-related costs, while Public Power Corporation S.A. will focus on the system’s contribution to leading to a more sustainable transition.

Their views will be complemented by interventions from a representative of the European Commission as well as from MEPs on the panel. Needless to say, we count on our guests in the audience to also provide their insights to the discussion!
