Exchange of views with the Finnish Presidency: enabling a sustainable transition in energy and marine transport
Mr Riku Huttunen - Director-General of the Energy Department, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland
Mr Marco Wirén - President of Energy Solution and Executive Vice President, Wärtsilä
Mr Kari Hietanen - Executive Vice President, Wärtsilä
Professor Klaus-Dieter Borchardt - Deputy Director-General for DG Energy, European Commission
The Finnish Presidency of the Council of the EU coincides with several significant European Commission’s proposals. Finland will be coordinating among Member States the formulation of the EU’s 2050 long-term strategy aiming to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, particularly focusing on the energy transition in EU industry and transport.
Ensuring a sustainable, secure, and cost-effective energy production is also included in the EU’s 2019-2024 strategic priorities.
The representative of the Finnish Presidency, Mr Riku Huttunen as well as Deputy Director-General for DG Energy, Prof. Klaus-Dieter Borchardt will present their insights to the climate neutrality discussion.
Energy transformation is a comprehensive matter also involving jobs and growth. It cannot be addressed by policy makers in isolation but requires a collective effort.
Therefore, to provide an industry perspective, Wärtsilä Board Members Marco Wirén and Kari Hietanen will offer their views on how to enable a sustainable transition towards a low-emission economy in marine transport and energy production.
This event will offer our Members the possibility to give their own contributions by sharing knowledge and information.
