The Finnish Presidency of the Council of the EU coincides with several significant European Commission’s proposals. Finland will be coordinating among Member States the formulation of the EU’s 2050 long-term strategy aiming to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, particularly focusing on the energy transition in EU industry and transport.

Ensuring a sustainable, secure, and cost-effective energy production is also included in the EU’s 2019-2024 strategic priorities.

The representative of the Finnish Presidency, Mr Riku Huttunen as well as Deputy Director-General for DG Energy, Prof. Klaus-Dieter Borchardt will present their insights to the climate neutrality discussion.

Energy transformation is a comprehensive matter also involving jobs and growth. It cannot be addressed by policy makers in isolation but requires a collective effort.

Therefore, to provide an industry perspective, Wärtsilä Board Members Marco Wirén and Kari Hietanen will offer their views on how to enable a sustainable transition towards a low-emission economy in marine transport and energy production.

This event will offer our Members the possibility to give their own contributions by sharing knowledge and information.
