Dinner debate in Brussels

Chaired by Jerzy Buzek – MEP EPP, Poland & President of the EEF

Speakers:

Ivo Milatić, State Secretary, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy, Croatia
François-Régis Mouton, Regional Director Europe of IOGP
Guido Bortoni, Adviser to Deputy Director-General for Energy Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, DG ENER, European Commission

The Croatian Presidency of the Council of the EU coincides with several expected European Commission’s proposals. In the next six months, Croatia will be coordinating discussions on the European Green Deal’s main initiatives.
Reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 requires substantial efforts from all parts of European society. A smooth journey with limited societal disruption calls for the strategic mobilisation of all available carbon abatement solutions.
Mr Ivo Milatić will present the Croatian Presidency’s priorities and the European Commission will give insights to what to expect in the months to come.

Speaker of IOGP, Mr François-Régis Mouton, will explain how the sector pursues ongoing efforts such as methane emission reductions, renewable energy development, offsetting carbon emissions, deployment of carbon capture use & storage, and the production of clean hydrogen at large-scale. Many questions arise:
•             What is the potential role of the oil & gas sector in deploying alternative energies and technologies alongside the transformation of its traditional activities?
•             How to leverage existing infrastructure and oil and gas assets to reduce transition costs?
•             What technologies to use to tackle emissions in hard-to-abate sectors?
•             What regulatory opportunities are there to kickstart a European hydrogen market?

This event will provide all participants with the chance to openly share ideas and information.
